Why Become a Hospice Volunteer?
Volunteering with Serenity Hospice Care offers an opportunity to form meaningful connections and serve people in your community. A conversation, shared activity, or quiet presence can provide comfort to patients and valuable encouragement to their loved ones.
Previous healthcare experience is not generally required for nonclinical volunteer roles. We provide orientation, role-specific training, and ongoing guidance to help volunteers serve confidently and respectfully.
Volunteers do not perform nursing duties, administer medications, or replace professional caregivers.
Hospice Volunteer Opportunities
Available roles depend on current patient needs, location, program capacity, and volunteer qualifications.
Patient Companionship
Visit patients in private homes or residential care communities to talk, read, listen to music, work on crafts, share memories, or provide friendly company.
Caregiver Support
Offer companionship to a patient while a family caregiver rests nearby or attends to approved personal tasks. Volunteer support is not a substitute for professional respite care or continuous supervision.
Quiet Presence
Provide a calm, reassuring presence when a patient or family would value additional companionship. This role may involve conversation, reflective silence, reading, or music.
Administrative Assistance
Support our Claremont office with appropriate clerical tasks, mail preparation, community outreach materials, filing, or other nonclinical projects.
Creative and Specialized Activities
Volunteers may share approved talents such as music, art, photography, crafting, or grooming services. Specialized roles may require professional credentials, additional screening, or certified therapy-animal documentation.
Bereavement Support
Assist the bereavement team with approved check-in calls, mailings, educational materials, grief-support resources, or remembrance activities.
